Case Study

Review this use case of our sensors used in a people detection application.

nuMedia Innovations used a MaxBotix sensor in this store display to detect the presence of people to initiate the interaction with the display.

As you’re searching for the people detection sensor for your application.  You’ll find that you need to select a sensor that best suits your needs for your project.

With that being said, our sensors operate well in different distance and proximity focused projects.

How Ultrasonic Sensors Work

Ultrasonic sensors work by sending out a sound wave at a frequency above the range of human hearing.

The transducer of the sensor acts as a microphone to receive and transmitter to send the ultrasonic sound.

Our ultrasonic sensors, like many others, use a single transducer to send a pulse and to receive the echo.  The sensor determines the distance to a target by measuring time lapses between the sending and receiving of the ultrasonic pulse.

Common uses include:

  • Proximity Zone Detection
  • Distance Measuring
  • Kiosks

Our ultrasonic sensors are easy to install and low maintenance. They are intended for non-contact distance sensing.

The working principle of this module is simple.

It sends an ultrasonic pulse out at 40kHz which travels through the air and if there is an obstacle or object, it will bounce back to the sensor.

By calculating the travel time and the speed of sound, the distance can be calculated.
