MaxBotix Supplies Ultrasonic Sensors for FIRST Robotics 2017
FRC® STEAMWORKS SM 2017
MaxBotix Inc., welcomes all participants of FIRST® STEAMWORKS SM the 2017 FIRST Robotics Competition game. MaxBotix has proudly sponsored the FIRST Robotics competition each year since 2012 and are looking forward to continue to support FIRST Robotics in 2017 and many years to come. This year we continued our sponsorship of FRC by sending every team in the competition a free MB1013 from the HRLV-MaxSonar-EZ line. You can learn more information at the 2017 FRC homepage. Download the datasheet and detailed for the MB1013 ultrasonic rangefinder here. We also have a Free Quick-Start Guide for the HRLV-MaxSonar-EZ for you to download, filled with useful tips to help you get started using the HRLV-MaxSonar-EZ.
In the FIRST Robotics Competition, multiple robots navigate a course without human control for the first 15 seconds of the competition. Your robots needs to perform autonomous navigations to make the best use of this time. While a single ultrasonic sensor provides information to the nearest obstacles, it does not tell you exactly where they are. Triangulation using multiple ultrasonic sensors helps your robot know exactly where the obstacles and goals are to help you succeed in the 2017 FRC. You can learn how to use triangulation with your robot in our article Direction and Distance to a Pole.
This ultrasonic sensor was also awarded one of the Top 10 Sensor Products of 2012 - from Sensors & Transducers Magazine.
Here's our editorial selection of those that we found the most interesting from innovation, metrological performances and technological points of view, focused first of all on smart and intelligent features. All these products have passed a two-stage selection: fist - for publication in the Sensors & Transducers Magazine as most interesting and relevant products (‘a choice of the month’); second - as most innovative products among all published in the Magazine during 2012.

To successfully complete their missions in the 2017 FRC, your robots need high performance rangefinders that can operate without interference in a multiple sensor environment. Your alliance has robots on the field as well as the opposing team. This means there is a lot of potential interference from other sensors around you. Our line of HRLV-MaxSonar-EZ sensors offer superior cross-talk and interference rejection. This let's your robots navigate the course even with other sensors being used next to it.
2017 FIRST Robotics Competition FIRST STEAMWORKS Kickoff
To ensure your robot completes the goals of STEAMWORKS, you need reliable and accurate sensors. The HRLV-MaxSonar-EZ sensors are acknowledged for the superior performance by the people of Sensors Web Portal, Inc. They list this line of products as one of the 10 Top Sensors Products of 2012. Our HRLV-MaxSonar-EZ ultrasonic sensors feature 1-mm resolution, target size compensation for improved accuracy, simultaneous automatic multi-sensor operation, superior rejection of outside noise sources, internal temperature compensation, optional external temperature compensation, a 5-meter range, and adds TTL serial output to the RS232, pulse width, and analog voltage outputs that are already standard on other MaxSonar products. You can see the full list of specifications for this product line in the ultrasonic sensor datasheet.
At MaxBotix, we proudly support all teams in this year’s FIRST Robotics Competition. While only one team may win, we hope every participant gains greater familiarity with and knowledge of robotics. If you do find yourself in need of more information about your MaxSonar sensor, we are more than happy to help you.
